God of War: Ascension is the next sequel in the popular God of War series, set to be launched in March 12, 2013. It is the 7th game of the series, and will chronologically be the first section in the series, developing part of a saga with vengeance as a main theme.

There's an factor of series weakness at play too, mostly due to the fact there's little mechanically in Rise that wasn't taken to its logical summary in God of War III. The legendary beasts, the huge sense of scale, and the grotesquely violent combat are all here, but Ascension is not a fresh take on those elements. Rather, it's mostly down to the history (set 10 years before the unique God Of War) to provide a change of pace, charting as it does Kratos' descent from a regular, albeit uber-strong individual being into an unhinged ball of rage.
